Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics (IACM) of FORTH - Greece

Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics, Foundation for Research and Technology

The Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics (IACM) is one of the seven institutes of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH). One of the core research areas within IACM is underwater acoustics, with emphasis on wave-theoretic propagation modeling and inverse problems, in particular ocean acoustic tomography and bottom imaging. The inversion methods developed at IACM have been successfully applied for the analysis of field data from large-scale experiments, such as the THETIS-2 tomography experiment in the western Mediterranean and the 6-year long tomography experiment in the Labrador Sea. IACM has participated in a large number of national and EU research projects on underwater acoustics. FORTH-IACM hosted the 3rd European Conference on Underwater Acoustics in 1996 and the 1st International Conference on Underwater Acoustic Measurements in 2005.
